So, before the wonderful, crazy, non-stop succession of year-end events began we quietly celebrated Jackson's birthday. Here he is participating in the traditional Montessori birthday ritual of "Walking Around the Sun". After he traced our planet's elliptical orbit 6 times, he made a wish and blew out the candle. Sometimes the child opts to carry a globe or a small model of the earth as they retrace their journey around our favorite class M star.
Wyatt created an amazing figure with the clay and toothpicks. It resembled a ferris wheel and had 21 faces. At the beginning of the year I use this material to reinforce the structure of the Geometric Solids. I've found it can also be useful in gainning a deeper understanding of the differences between 2-Dimensional and 3-Dimensional figures. So, quiet Wyatt "the enginneer" went from building "cubes", "square-based pyraminds", and rectanglular prisims to this wonderful septagonal prism. Way to go, Wyatt!
